Preview: BTC and ETH edge higher, Cronos and Fogo halt activity, and Argentina shows why stablecoins remain practical infrastructure.

Price holds on thin volume while Tectonic and Fogo incidents force networks to choose containment over continuity
Bitcoin and Ether recovered a little, but the weekend tape was thin. That matters because low volume can make price stability look stronger than it is. Away from the market, two separate network halts put emergency controls and user communication under a brighter light.
1. The Day in Numbers
- Bitcoin: $78,799 at 16:00 UTC, up 1.2 percent over 24 hours.
- Ethereum: $2,479, up 1.4 percent over 24 hours.
- Fear and Greed Index: 69, Greed, up one point from Saturday.
- Weekend volume: Completed Saturday volume fell about 64.5 percent for BTC and 71.3 percent for ETH from Friday's levels on Binance.
2. Today's Headlines
- Cronos halted while Tectonic investigated an incident. An onchain researcher estimated that about $75 million was affected and roughly $6 million had already bridged away. Neither Tectonic nor Cronos had confirmed the final amount or root cause.
- Fogo stopped its mainnet after 400 million FOGO reached an attacker. The tokens represented more than 10 percent of circulating supply and were worth about $3 million when reported.
- Stablecoins dominate tracked peso-denominated crypto trading in Argentina. Artemis data cited by a16z put the share at 94 percent, while the digital dollar premium was about 4 percent on 28 August.
- Kalshi reportedly became the US Open's exclusive prediction-market partner. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the parties had not publicly confirmed the report at publication time.
3. Security Note
A chain halt is not proof that funds are safe, and an early loss estimate is not a final accounting. The best rule during an active incident is to stop interacting with the affected protocol, avoid unofficial recovery links, and wait for signed statements that identify the canonical chain state. If assets have already moved across a bridge, a rollback on the original network may not recover them.

The complete guide to decentralized finance covers lending collateral, liquidation rules, smart contract dependencies, and the risks that appear when several protocols share the same asset.
Thin markets reward patience. So do incomplete incident reports. Let both develop before drawing a confident conclusion.
