THE DAILY LEDGER
1 September 2026
Prices drift lower while banks, exchanges, and regulators prepare for a market where dollars and securities move onchain
Crypto began September without a strong price move, but the plumbing kept changing. A global bank group outlined a stablecoin company, the SEC proposed new transfer-agent rules, and exchanges pushed tokenized access further into conventional markets. The common theme is settlement.
1. The Day in Numbers
- Bitcoin: $77,887 at 16:00 UTC, down 0.9 percent over 24 hours.
- Ethereum: $2,448, down 0.7 percent over 24 hours.
- Fear and Greed Index: 69, Greed, up seven points from Monday.
- Derivatives activity: Binance reported about $433.4 billion of traditional asset perpetual volume in August, compared with $29.5 billion in January. Equity-linked products supplied roughly 79 percent of the August total.
2. Today's Headlines
- Twenty-one financial institutions plan a global stablecoin company. The group targets a US dollar stablecoin in the first half of 2027, with a euro product expected later. The company and tokens are not live yet.
- Payward and the London Stock Exchange plan tokenized versions of 100 listed companies. The proposed shares would be backed one for one. Regulatory approval is still required, and UK investors were not initially eligible.
- The SEC proposed modernizing transfer-agent rules. The proposal addresses electronic records, blockchain, tokenized securities, and artificial intelligence. It is open for comment and is not a final rule.
- Binance announced physically settled options on more than 1,000 US stocks and ETFs. The products are intended for eligible non-US users through an ADGM-regulated entity.
- Ethena Pay opened a staged beta on Avalanche across 48 countries. The United States and European Union were excluded from the initial rollout.
3. Security Note
Malwarebytes identified a fake GTA 6 leak site carrying a wallet drainer. The site targeted Solana and seven EVM networks by asking visitors to connect a wallet and approve transfers or permissions. The rule is simple: software leaks, game downloads, and giveaway pages never need wallet access. Close the page and reject every unexplained approval.
4. From the Academy Library
How Stablecoins Hold a Dollar provides the right checklist for the proposed bank token: issuer liability, reserves, custody, redemption, and the legal claim held by the user.
Price was quiet. Settlement was not. The systems being proposed today will matter only if their legal and operational promises survive real redemptions.
